David Simmons

David Simmons is a licensed acupuncturist, educator, and founder of Advanced Acupuncture & Pain Management Clinic, with over 15 years of experience delivering results-driven, integrative care. Nationally certified by the NCCAOM and licensed by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, he holds a Master’s Degree in Traditional East Asian Medicine from Northwestern Health Sciences University and brings a rare depth of training across both Eastern and Western disciplines—including psychology, physiology, nutrition, and manual therapy.

Traditional East Asian Medicine Practitioner

David’s clinical approach is rooted in one of the most respected and powerful acupuncture lineages in the world: Master Tung’s Acupuncture. Originating as a closely guarded family system dating back to the Han dynasty, this method is renowned for producing rapid, often remarkable results using a minimal number of needles.

Through its transmission by direct disciples such as Dr. Wei-Chieh Young, the system has become one of the most sought-after specialties in modern acupuncture. David practices this method extensively, in his own private clinic and in the oncology unit at Mercy Hospital—complemented by advanced training in Dr. Tan’s Balance Method, Dr. Zhu Scalp Acupuncture, and Korean, Japanese, and Chinese styles.

His work spans a wide range of clinical environments—from hospital systems like Virginia Piper Cancer Institute (Unity & Mercy Hospitals) to rehabilitation centers, long-term care facilities, and integrative wellness clinics.

Across these settings, he has contributed to innovative care models, including developing mentorship and long-term treatment programs, and has supported patients through complex conditions ranging from chronic pain and neurological disorders to cancer recovery and women’s health.

But David’s path to acupuncture was not purely academic—it was deeply personal.

From Witness to Purpose: The Origin of His Work

At 16, he watched his mother undergo aggressive treatment for breast cancer, only to be left with severe, chronic pain caused by complications from surgery. When conventional options offered no clear solution, acupuncture restored her quality of life completely. That moment became a turning point.

Driven to understand and replicate that level of healing, David committed himself to the study of Traditional Chinese Medicine—not only to help others, but to address his own longstanding health challenges. Today, conditions he once believed were lifelong—such as asthma, allergies, and digestive issues—have largely resolved.

This combination of clinical rigor and lived experience defines David’s work. He approaches each patient with both precision and empathy, integrating education, lifestyle guidance, and evidence-informed care to create lasting outcomes.

For the communities he serves—including White Bear Lake, Hugo, Shoreview, Mahtomedi, and Maplewood—David is known for one thing above all: helping people get their lives back.
